i've been trying to build a search engine that runs on php. now searching a
database is not the problem, but searching thru a mix of php-scripts and
html-files and databases is...
i think it would be a real programming challenge to build a php-search
engine that will not only search thru the file-system, but is intelligent
enough to link to "results-pages" (i.e. the pages that are the result of
some php-script acting on a database or other data) as well...
i know about php being too slow and heavy on the server for this kind of
application, but i'd still like to hear some idea's.
furthermore, does anyone know how to extract the exact url that has been
used to get to a certain script? (for example:
http://www.hoozemans.nl/hoozemans.nl/index.php?submitted=1&kaas=brie)
i can get some partial data from the server, like $SERVER_NAME, or
$PATH_INFO, but i can't seem to locate the url itself...
ok, have fun with this!

Hi Jerry,
When I want to learn a new language I always
start with an address/phone book application.
With this type of app, you'll learn about UI design,
database editing, and intraction with the user - which covers
most aspects of the new language.
Yet, this kind of app is basic, and implementation
issues won't obscure the learning process.
