I would like to note that back when I was working with ASP (before I'd ever
even looked at PHP), I found much of the documentation to be either sparse
or incorrect. Most of the sample code would fail with very basic syntax
errors if you copied and pasted it into a quick test.asp. The Microsoft
docs, like most of their programming docs, gave the impression that the tech
writers had not been in communication with the developers much and had not
done anything other than trivial work with the product. When I first started
with PHP, the first thing that impressed me was the much higher quality and
easier to use manual.
