He has a point, isn't PEAR supposed to offer reusable components, not complete apps, right ?We are discussing about the best way to create a PHP code generator out of database or XML tample. Smarty and other template systems are interesting, but we need to go one step further. I think Naoki's idea of PEAR framework is worth looking at. Porting Swing to Php would be the cornerstone of such a project. Swing is Java GUI component builder which makes building Java applications as easy as writing VB code. It is widely spread and described everywhere on the Internet. KDevelop next release will be able to handle Php and Java. It is not long before someone adds a Swing compatible GUI builder in KDevelop. If our API is close to Swing, it ***might*** enable the development of WYSIWYG php applications. Here is a summary of requirements: - abstract page builders (be able to split a page into panes, add standard elements in panes, define SQL/XML data sources). The page structure should be available under object-oriented structure (this is the meaning of abstract builder). In a way, we are looking for a Swing abstraction level in Php. Event management should also be unified and managed in a class like in Swing. Please note I am not looking for Swing absolutely. If we can build things out of existing objects, I will be happy with it. - Possibility to load/save a page in XML content. Ability to load external templates in panes and compile them. - Code generator to build list/page views quickly. Have a look at PhpLens which has such functions. The resulting code can be compiled and stored in Zend cache. Anyone working on such a project? Help and feedback needed. Later/Jean-Michel POURE
