There is a lot of truth in your words.
The purpose of PEAR is to offer highly reusable components. PEAR is
NOT yet another hotscripts.com, where you can get every application
you can imagine.
PEAR will be _the_ place to get components for (enterprise) web
applications that are written in PHP. It will present methods for
accessing RPC services, for accessing databases, for working via
HTTP connections, for parsing XML, for talking via SOAP, for
creating authentication system, for calculating dates etc.
But I think it is a bad idea to make PEAR a place, where you can
find all different kinds of applications like the ones, that have
been mentioned in the last days on this list. For such applications
there is enough room on SourceForge and it's friends.
Again: PEAR is IMO not intended to be a repository for that kind
of applications, that you can on SourceForge, Freshmeat, Hotscripts
etc.
