You'll agree it's much much easier to write HTTP client code using cURL
as opposed to direct socket manipulation. Moreso, when I plan to
implement HTTPS certificate authentication (I need it internally at my
company). In an ideal world XML_RPC2 would depend on an external library
for HTTP client code.
The aim is to depend on HTTP_Request. Unfortunately, HTTP_Request is not
E_STRICT compliant, and borks all unit tests. So, the compromise is to
substitute HTTP_Request with a slimmed down utility class
(XML_RPC2_Util_HTTPRequest) and switch over once HTTP_Request goes PHP5.
