There is no smooth migration path. I propose the following, if PHP 5 is
released:
- mark new classes using PHP5 features as 'PHP5 only'
- rewrite the existing classes using PHP 5 features and move the 'old' into a
package subdir
- change the installer to install depending on the PHP version the rewrite or
the old
