2 repository should be a good solution. To spare work, we can freeze the php4
branch. Only bugs corrections could be applied in the php4 branch. New features
and code rewrite for the new one.
In the same way others software work for major updates, the old is freezed and a
new branch is created for the next major release.
In this case we don t have any BC compatility problems, and do not have to
modify the install script, and last but not least, quit easier to maintain.
