Smarty is one the best PHP only templating solution with meta-programming. Not the best templates
solution, or not a template solution for what I consider as template, no 'intelligence'
inside them.

afaik there are plans to extends pear package features, better deps support by example. I like rpm
too, except they are not really cross platform, the pear installer running on the top of php is
cross-platform.
