I explained that to Stig, but still he decided to carry on with PEAR and PEAR-DB later. Can you imagine the amount of heated discussions that could have been avoided if Stig was more open to cooperate then in Metabase rather than kick his own API? Do you see why missing relevant parts of history makes people jump in discussions with inappropriate arguments?
Metabase is not the navel of the world (same as for Binarycloud, which I remember also some heated discussions). Metabase is not the best thing available on the world.
Nor I said so. Metabase has two main goals: provide a single API for developing truely portable database applications and provide a easy to use portable database schema management. It tries to achieve this with a great degree of confidence by the means of a very extensive regression tests that verify that the different drivers conform to the API specification. The code is also written in a single style. The documentation is thorough and educational because it teaches more than just using Metabase, it teachs about important database concepts that are necessary for the users to understand the potential of this package. All this means that it was written with very high standards of software development by so far 9 people that wrote significant portions of the package. It may not be the best thing in the world for you but that is just your opinion. For many of the about 10,000 users that downloaded it, Metabase is just ok for use to use in serious applications in productivity environments. I hope you do not mind if we have a different opinion of yours. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos
