That's right, but it would not fit into the CI of *.php.net sites. > PEAR lacks of serious recognition among the PHP community as it was well This is true and I think changes are in progress. See the PEAR weekly news, the monthly column on PHP Magazin, two sessions on the PHP Conference about PEAR etc. No one can expect to happen a serious recognition within days. > > to be honest, a banner would not fit on pear.php.net > > (but perhaps a text link). > Text links do not grab anybody's attention. Manuel "I am the marketing prof" has spoken. Be sure Manuel, I have been digging into this topic for some years now and my experience says that text links _do_ grab a lot of attention. If not, all the marketing experts at clickz.com, marketingprofs.com, all Googler's (why are Google's text ads so successful?) and Nielsen's would be wrong. Only Manuel is right. > Let me make this clearer with some numbers. It takes 250 new subscribers > to appear one new contributing author to the PHP classes. If you go a look on the My experience confirms that this is only true for a temporary timeframe X when each of those sites in this exchange ring are hubbing each other. After the timeframe X they are nearly on a same level and growth (in terms of growing popularity) will not happen anymore. (My experience is from the three biggest PHP resource portals in *.de, my own phpcenter.de, dynamic-webpages.de and php-homepage.de) And, if the people who decide about pearweb would have wanted banner exchanges (not neccessarily with PHPclasses but spoken in a more general POV), they would have done it. > >>PEAR does not provide any of this kind of opportunities to get immediate > > I know that having automatic (weekly/bi-monthly) newsletters > > will arouse attention to those people. These are things that everybody should know or that everybody can learn in the first lesson of E-Marketing.
