Actually, I think this may not be a bad idea... pear 2.0 packages would need
to be optimized for php5.
There should be a system for pear with multiple packages. Of course, most
php4 code will still work with php5, but php5 code won't work with php4.
Right now we have a situation like PHPUnit, which has a stable release that
cannot be installed on php4, but the user must determine the latest version
that worked with php4. I don't think this is the way it should work.
As for community, that's something that has to be fixed apart from any new
framework.
