Hi! Lukas Smith wrote:
Of course this could be done in the current PEAR. However this is more difficult and also a bit problematic. Even though this is Opensource there is an implicit contract between all parties. Changing the rules too much feels problematic too me. While creating a new "version" of PEAR seems like a totally valid thing to do.
So the question is just whether we purge "broken" packages actively or passively (not taking them to PEAR2). The first solution will alienate some developers, the second will alienate users. Here are some reactions to your proposal on phpdeveloper.org: http://www.phpdeveloper.org/index/1752 My favourite: --------------------- What's the big deal about PEAR...seems to me like a CPAN that never caught on. It's like a PHP wart: It's there, but it's so ugly, you'd rather not show it off in public. ---------------------
Anyways I am also not sure if you can define a community process properly this late in the game.
I am not sure that you can define the (not-quite-toothless) community process and remain friends with everyone. Are you?
