Quoting Bertrand Mansion <bmansion@mamasam.com>:
By having their code in PEAR, they expose it to a larger audience and might get more feedback or fixes in return.
I see no evidence of that.
And you should be worried too that Horde people have so much power here that they can stop a good proposal
Uh, what proposal was stopped? Clay is - and should be - going through with requesting votes on the proposal. I'd imagine from the discussion here that it'll be accepted. I see nothing stopping that.
I understand that they are trying to promote their project, a bit like Manuel Lemos used to do with PHPClasses, but they should do it more wisely and try not to discourage other people making proposals. What if Manuel commented every proposal by saying "I think you should look at phpclasses.org, there is a class that already does just that". At least, he stopped doing it.
I understand that you see it this way, Bertrand, and I know that you have no fondness for Horde. From my point of view, what we (Horde) have done is to offer our code into PEAR - to have it be *part* of PEAR, and simply used in Horde. I see that as very different from pointing to an external repository and saying "use this instead". I thought that PEAR was a great idea and that I should contribute to it. But don't worry, Bertrand. You and PEAR are safe from that. I'll stop doing it, and no further proposers or ideas for APIs will be bothered by me with mentions of Horde. You saved it. (Martin, you may as well take down the link at http://pear.php.net/packages.php - beast the hell out of me what that accomplishes, and it obviously only creates negative impressions) -chuck -- "Regard my poor demoralized mule!" - Juan Valdez
