Wow.
I totally agree with Joshua here. There are hundreds (843, actually) of developers. I'm not on the PEAR-GROUP list (not even sure if that's public), but I would think that an email at least outlining the position or asking if someone else wanted to take over would be common courtesy.
I have no idea what is involved in maintaining the PEAR that ships with PHP, but I'd think that there's someone out there who might be willing to give it a shot (or at least be interested in finding out more).
I'd, tentatively, be interested in helping out if someone so wished.
Also, it could be the PHP team wants PEAR out of PHP. If that's the case then just let us know why or maybe some people would could share our views with.

Today Pierre announced that he pulled PEAR from PHP6 branch (http://blog.thepimp.net/index.php/2005/08/16/13-php-60-and-pear). Now well this doesn't have an immediate impact it does concern me that a change this big wasn't even announced on this list. I realize its a lot of work, but if Pierre doesn't want to do it then it should be brought up here to give someone else a chance. Especially in infrastructure, PEAR should be about whats best for the community not what the maintainer feels like doing. Anyhow either someone needs to step up and put some sort of installer back in and make the commitment to keep up with releases or we need to figure out ways to mitigate the problem by making the installation steps more clear. -josh --PEAR Development Mailing List (http://pear.php.net/) To unsubscribe, visit: http://www.php.net/unsub.php-- Joseph C.
