Uhm .. PEAR is three things: 1) the core classes 2) an installer 3) a code repository
4.) An open source *COMMUNITY*
You are total overdramatizing.
I refuse to sit idle while a community I've been deeply involved in with for a few years now takes such drastic steps without talking with the community of developers who MADE PEAR WHAT IS IS NOW. It's simple. A single person (PAJ) or a selected few (PEAR-GROUP/PHP-GROUP) made a decision while ignoring the hundreds of people who contribute to PEAR on a daily basis. That's what I'm and I'm sure others are so upset about. The community needs to focus on fixing anything blocking PHP 5.1 (even if this means breaking PHP4 versions of PEAR) and then focus on keeping PEAR in PHP6. It's not like we're a bunch of retards who don't know how to make this happen. PEAR is home to some of the BEST PHP developers on earth and I don't think giving up on keeping PEAR in PHP is the answer. --Joe
