I think it is a Good Thing that the sources for PEAR have been pulled
from the PHP module. This gets rid off the hassle to synchronize
pear-core and php-src/pear.
By the time PHP 6 comes out we will (hopefully) have PEAR 1.4 and a
PHAR-based distribution of the PEAR Installer that can be easily
installed -- either manually by the user (or the distribution) or by
adding the PHAR to the release tarball and its Makefile.
