I think my problem isn't the fact that PEAR is being pulled from PHP, but that this move wasn't discussed with the 843 PEAR developers. Some consideration for the hours upon hours of time I've spent submitting bugs, creating patches, rolling releases and fighting for karma would have been much appreciated.
Instead I find out second hand that the common goal I've been working towards, along with hundreds of other PEAR developers is getting yanked from the main PHP distribution. Maybe I missed the notice the PAJ or the PHP group was pulling PEAR from PHP6 or that PEAR was holding PHP 5.1 back ... It still seems kind of craptastic to me.

Hi Sebastian Bergmann! On 08/16/05 09:12 you wrote:-- Joseph C. This gets rid off the hassle to synchronize pear-core and php-src/pear.Agreed.By the time PHP 6 comes out we will (hopefully) have PEAR 1.4 and a PHAR-based distribution of the PEAR Installer that can be easily installed -- either manually by the user (or the distribution) or by adding the PHAR to the release tarball and its Makefile.I think the latter solution would make most sense, since we can provide a PHAR for go-pear then and while bundleling a release just the actual stable PHAR can be grabbed. But for now, I think there are more important things to do, like testing the current PEAR 1.3 version fro CVS and get it ready for 5.1RC1. We are really keeping that version from being released by now and that's not a good thing afterall.
