that of course means that any package that does throw exceptions becomes fairly problematic to people who also develop in the same style as i do. but exceptions is what the vocal masses clamor for. so if there are unvocal masses that disagree i think they failed to make their voices heard in time. therefore they will have to change their ways or ought to go elsewhere for their libraries in the future - you know now that happy rapid prototyping land we had back in the php4 days ;)
Ok it was pointed out to me that I am in no position to make such conclusions. I guess this is just my personal conclusion. I feel that we are not adopting PHP5 properly. Because there is confusion about how to approach PHP5 and I think there needs to a definitive basic agreement. So my personal conclusion is that the masses want to force exception usage and that I think that the other side is too small and is therefore just stalling an inevitable process (even if the disagreement with this process is imho based on sound reasoning and I am therefore part of this minority opposition). As a result to make way for these masses I am leaving PEAR once the Google Summer Code projects are over and integrated into PEAR. Probably no later than October 1st 2006. Anyone who wants to take over/join development of any of my packages should contact me within this time frame so that they can still benefit from my brain cycles. The timing is pretty good anyways, because I will probably have a transitional period in my professional life at that point anyways, which is making this decision much easier. regards, Lukas
