Let's put that discussion on hold until after the elections. David, Alexey is the maintainer of HTTP_Request. Why don't you try to get together with him to make a E_STRICT solution for Joe's problem?Yes I know, that's why I proposed to find a plan off list :) And I am writing another email atm to discuss about the issue with him.
PEPr-ing or GROUP-ing this issue is not the way to go here. As Alexey said, he is willing to "cooperate" and to provide help. A v2 of a package is always something that the maintainer has to decide. Only if he isn't active anymore, the PEAR Group should decide something about a v2.Was my point, but it sounded arsh (which I am sorry for), Alexey, I'm sending you an email to discuss about what we could do for Joe, and my main problem was that we could come up with a solution and then have it changed later by the pear-group. Anyways, back to other email :)
