Graham, I personally am on an anti-Microsoft trip at the moment. I have hundreds of dollars invested in multiple copis of MSOffice Pro, Publisher, Win XP, Win 2K, Win2K3, IIS5, and IIS5.1, and several other MS apps. About 5 months ago I got so fed up I told Microsoft to jump in the river and I wasn't gonna follow. Since I've replaced almost every copy of that expensive Microsoft Office with OpenOffice.org or StarOffice, and IE has been replaced with Moz, Outlook, with MozMail, etc. The only MS product that remains on my system are the OS, and that is because when I installed RedHat on my lappy (last time was about a month ago) I had terrible driver support for my touch pad. Honestly that, and the fact that Wine made me want to pass out, I am only hanging on to windows by a thread. Anyhow, enough ranting and raving... If the day comes when Linux has the drivers I need, I'll be dumping my Win32 right into the circular file. Until then though, I am forced into this position. - Stan Graham Clarke wrote:
Stan - We just jumped into RedHat & Postgres & love it. After years of MS SQL, w2k server, etc... we started a project this spring where open source server software was a must. for $600 I've got a used VALinux running apache, postgres, & php. Postgres is really good. Fast and powerful. We now prefer it over MS SQL. It's definitely a change in mind set, but so much cleaner and more simple than windows. Setting up PEAR was effortless. I could go on & on. Wish I'd started using linux years ago. Graham For At 09:46 AM 7/2/2003 -0500, Stan Lemon wrote:
Markus, I've been watching them talk about that for quite some time, and would love for them to finally do that. However, I question their (mid 2003) projection, and honestly think that we windowers are going to have to wait a big longer. - Stan P.S. How is it possible for me to get the SQLite dcumentation off of CVS, I've never touched CVS before so I'm starting anew. Markus Wolff wrote:

Postgre would hold a possibility if tere was a decent Win32 copy out. I've played with their current release, which you need to cygwin to run, I think I'd rather try compiling PHP w/ mySQL after that experience. It was horrible, no joke. (I would be interested in anyone who has somehow managed to get it wo work.)
The next Version of PostgreSQL (7.4, I believe) is supposed to have native Windows support without the need for Cygwin and the like. I don´t know when it´s gonna be out, though. Regards, Markus
