Quite favorably. CERN had a comparison up for a while which gave MySQL a
C, PostGreSQL a B+ or A-, and Oracle an A, IIRC. The primary issues they
had with PostGreSQL were the lack of a company to go to when things go
south, again, IIRC.
PostGreSQL needs to be vacuumed regularly, but it is much more
conforming to the SQL standards than MySQL. Both are good tools when
used appropriately.
