About 600 authors contributed to the site. If you are interested to contribute many tens of thousands of users eager to learn about new classes will welcome you.
Every time you write something on this list, it looks like an advertising for your phpclasses site. I am really getting tired of this spam.
Ooops, this was not meant to go to the list. I sware that I removed everybody that was in Cc: including pear-dev@lists.php.net but it seems that I forgot to remove the Newsgroups: header. Sorry!
Personally, I don't know how you manage contributions but having reviewed
I don't review contributors code. I just make sure the code is an actual class and that the descriptions clearly describe what was posted. It is not viable to review people's code the way you insist on doing with PEAR contributions. I just let the users be the judges of what is posted. That is democracy. Censorship is not viable nor desirable.
some of the classes on phpclasses, I can say there's a lot of shitty code
That is your opinion. I tend to respect more the work that people bother to contribute, even when is very simple or not so useful. If I would bother to label everybody's code that I do not find useful or well written with such adjectives as you do, I will probably use the same adjectives with many of the classes approved in PEAR. I just don't use those adjectives especially in a public list because I feel that in the past we were not all that good when each of us started programming. Over time people will improve, but they will need feedback. Having the chance to expose their work without having to beg, provides them a chance to get feedback that will help them to improve. Such adjectives that you use not only hurt people feelings but also make you look as an arrogant dictator. But that is just my opinion, of course! :-)
over there. Exactly what's hurting PHP, buggy code, not reusable, written
I don't see why that would hurt. If you don't like, don't use it. But at least everybody has a fair chance expose their work and all the users have access to more alternatives to solve some time the same problems. It is not just sharing code, it is also sharing knowledge.
without coding standards and with HTML embedded. The problem is that there are probably good classes, but it's too hard to find them among the masses. Just looking at the number of mysql wrappers is really fun.
I suppose you do not go there for at least a few months. Since some time ago there is a package rating system that lets people grade each package they download in aspects like: utility, consistency, documentation, examples and test cases. Like it or not, every user has the chance to influence the author by grading each package. The best rated packages are listed in the top charts page: http://en.static.phpclasses.org/browse.html/top/top.html#monthratedpackages Better, the authors of the best rated packages may win prizes every month provided by partner sites and sponsors like for instance the PHP-Editors.com site: http://www.php-editors.com/class_contest.php Hopefully this will provide greater motivation for the authors to improve and also help the user to find the most appreciated classes. There is still room for improvement, but so far this has been very good to please the authors and the users.
Anyway, please use this list for useful comments and not advertising.
Sorry, don't worry, I hardly have time to do what I want, even less to what I do not need. :-) -- Regards, Manuel Lemos Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/
