-1 indeed.
-1 here, as I discussed this point with Richard and fully agreed with him here. pierre
I didn't call for at vote, and there is no way I would call for such a vote - I only pointed out that there had not been any formal rejection of my proposal. I asked for comments (any comment), but no, only -1. What I now find rather strange is that while the proposal is discussed in private, I've heard only heard: "I don't like the code". Now I don't think that's fair...
Fair or not, the bottom line is that your work is not wanted in PEAR the way you were proposing. PEAR people still have to organize the process better to avoid such grief to people that were so much willing to contribute. If you look back to the history of PEAR, you are not the first and certainly not the last to see your contributions rejected, whether or not there was really some arrangement behind the scenes to make sure your proposal is not accepted. If I were you, I would not bother to insist. Personally I tend to follow the guideline to not try to go where your work is not wanted. Alternatively, you may want to try to post your work somewhere else. If it is really something good, I am sure that you will get good acceptance. You may want to try to post it in http://www.phpclasses.org/ . This is a site that works differently to PEAR, specially when it comes to the approval of new classes. Here are the guidelines: http://www.phpclasses.org/contribute.html The interesting part for you, is that you can have immediate exposure of your work once it is published without having to request for votes to be approved. The site sends out notifications by e-mail to more than 50,000 users when the classes are approved, besides those that are notified in the site newsletter weekly digest: http://www.phpclasses.org/newsletter.html There are also popularity charts that are updated every day here: http://www.phpclasses.org/browse.html/top/top.html There is no problem is posting classes that are similar to others that already exist. For instance, I posted my own MIME message class and that would not prevent you from posting yours there too. Whether your work is good or not, the users will be the judges of that. If you provide useful classes, with consistent style, good examples and good deocumentation, you can even receive good ratings and win prizes. Anyway, you can always post your classes to PHP Classes site regardless if you will ever want to contribute to PEAR and whether or not you are accepted in PEAR. Many PEAR authors contributed to this site. The PHP Classes site is not a competitor of PEAR, but it gets many contributions of authors that are not accepted or do not agree with PEAR procedures. About 600 authors contributed to the site. If you are interested to contribute many tens of thousands of users eager to learn about new classes will welcome you. -- Regards, Manuel Lemos Free ready to use OOP components written in PHP http://www.phpclasses.org/
