That's what I was thinking.I thought it might be nice to aggregate news/blog posts from various PHP sites on the front page.We could list some random titles of blog entries from planet-php or something, but we can't have the entire posts.
I don't know what that means, but we already do language detection (iirc the order is; #1 user specified, #2 last browsed, #3 url, #4 accept-language).He is referring to the language selection page that you get when you click the Documentation link. He suggests (and I agree) that we should remove it and jump straight into the manual with the default language. The language detection order sounds good.
No. The Windows guys want things like this. Its their choice.Ok. Maybe we can talk to them when the time comes. IMO, it doesn't make much sense to have them on different sites.
1. Search I don't worry to much over it. We have "CDN" in place so latency shouldn't be an issue, and we usually have couple of mirrors in each country. The only bottleneck would be contacting the Y! API for 'external searches', but I'm sure Y! has a javascript API we could offload to if that starts to suck.Sounds good. For what it's worth, the "manual-lookup.php" requests from my nearest mirror (ca.php.net) are completing in an average of 350ms. It should be faster if it is just returning JSON. Ideally we'd want to have it down around 100ms. The external search (results.php) takes a fair bit longer at around 1.5 seconds. Stew
