I don't mind having it referenced, wherever, as long as it's basically prefixed with a warning along the lines of:
DON'T USE IT UNLESS YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD IDEA AS TO WHAT YOU'RE DOING. EVEN THEN, TRY NOT TO USE IT.
Since I really don't see this situation ever changing, I don't want people to start relying on something to be fixed when it'll never be fixed...

I never expected people to use references to build data structures (my own and Andi's fault, if we did, we would have probably not introduced them in the first place). If you encourage people to do it by putting it in the manual in such a suggestive way, more and more people would use it, and the day when people complain that it leaks like hell when inside a loop won't be too far away.ok. perhaps the manual isn´t the right place, but it *should* be mentioned in a tutorial (maybe in another section) to encourage advanced users, to use an advanced feature when I´ve completed my work I´m currently on, I´ll have real-life data an actual leakage, that´ll probably help to point out if it that leakage could turn out as a bad bad thing --o----------0-¬---------O-·---¬----o---®-----o o O ° . | http://www.kiffen.de | pRoteçt y0ur bRaín |0 O ° ¤ ° ·0°·³°²'²³-¹'³´³°^°³~³²³°'³²²¨³²^³¹³²°²³`³º³°Þ ° o © ° . ·| psychedelic experience | gott@kiffen.de | O ° o °o-¬--o--0-----©-·--O-----o-----0-¤----------o 0 ° · ° . ¤ ·
