Hey guys, Not a good situation where the PEAR dependency is slowing down the PHP release. Maybe the best way to resolve this in future is to have a "self-booting" script in the PHP distro that grabs the "to-be-used" PEAR installer from pear. Hopefully something so simple that it wouldn't need updating :) Anyway, I saw Rasmus' commit. I think it's a decent option for now. Can you please review it and let me know when I can go ahead and roll RC1? I am having some minor arm surgery tomorrow but I'll try and read email (if I wake up from the anesthetic :) and worst case, I'll ask someone else to roll. In any case, seems to me that it's best to roll on Monday and not tomorrow to give at least a day to review what we have. Andi At 09:58 AM 8/11/2005 -0700, Rasmus Lerdorf wrote:

Hi, First off, this will not be a long reply because I'm "typing" on a Treo 650, which is far too slow for the time available to me. PEAR 1.4 has one extremely untested feature, binary package installs. I have completed a successful test of this feature on my development box using a preferred_mirror setting of the local box, but there is a significant lack of feedback (read: none). There is some tweaking needed to package.xml 2.0 although not much. I've been talking to several devs offlist and we've had improvements to the format of post-install scripts and also I have a solution to the problem of the license tag location. REST is fixed at pearweb and has been for 2 weeks at least. There is a bug in the caching code that was just fixed and will be committed tonight. areas we need serious help in are: 1) unit tests for REST are scarce. I won't feel comfortable with a beta until we have them. 2) API docs for internal classes. I had been generating skels using phpdoc and fleshing them by hand. This is tedious, hard work that requires good understanding of how things work. 3) we need at least 1 release of PEAR with errorstack split out. 4) REST is not yet enabled for peclweb. This is not a biggie. I will write more later. Ok, for now let's just go with the ext/xmlrpc dependency I just committed. I'd still like to go to 1.4 soon, but I don't want to hold up RC1 for it. Could you guys please check the changes I made in the PHP_5_1 tree? I am pretty sure the mock client/server test cases are broken now. -Rasmus
