Hey guys, Not a good situation where the PEAR dependency is slowing down the PHP release. Maybe the best way to resolve this in future is to have a "self-booting" script in the PHP distro that grabs the "to-be-used" PEAR installer from pear. Hopefully something so simple that it wouldn't need updating :)I have a nearly working possibility which would involve distributing PEAR in a single .phar file. There is a mysterious problem that I have not yet been able to debug, but the next two weeks will give me much more of a chance to debug this. This would allow complete removal of individual files from php-src. All we would need is a single install-pear.phar file that could be downloaded from pear.php.net
Anyway, I saw Rasmus' commit. I think it's a decent option for now. Can you please review it and let me know when I can go ahead and roll RC1? I am having some minor arm surgery tomorrow but I'll try and read email (if I wake up from the anesthetic :) and worst case, I'll ask someone else to roll. In any case, seems to me that it's best to roll on Monday and not tomorrow to give at least a day to review what we have.Good luck with the surgery :). I won't have a decent enough internet connection to review the commit until Monday, so I would like to encourage other PEAR devs to take this action. Greg
