Pierre,
The base PEAR installer already has dependencies -- Archive_Tar,
Console_Getopt and XML_RPC. Even though the XML_RPC dependency is on the way
out, two others remain for the time being. Given that those dependencies
exist, what's the problem with an additional dependency on an external
PEAR_ErrorStack?
I have a hard time seeing the problem with a handful of dependencies --
after all, breaking the installer down into a few dependent parts reduces
overall bloat, and allows for more flexible release schedules to fix bugs.
If there's a problem with Archive_Tar or Console_Getopt, they can be
addressed without the hubbub that's involved in a full-blown PEAR version
upgrade.
Multiple dependencies, within reason, add up to flexibility. I don't see a
problem with the PEAR Installer having two to five dependencies.
