It seems to me that a decision could be made here on a case-by-case basis,
taking the dependency package developer(s) into consideration. I would argue
that there are few PEAR developers that have a more meticulous attention to
detail than Greg -- which also reduces the risk.
Taking a particular developer's proven track record _plus_ unit testing, and
you've reduced the risk even further. In the case of Error_Stack, the risk
is reduced to the point of being negligible.
