Hy everybody What the hell is wrong with PEAR? The current situation on PEAR is pissing me off.
First, you're too easily annoyed. Take a break, look outside your window. Chill out, man. Have a cup of tea, contemplate your navel. There's more important things in the world to get angry at. Secondly, PHP on Unix is the most popular combination on the web. Apache on Unix covers about 60% of all the web-servers on the internet. So even if it /is/ grap (whatever that means), it's /popular/ grap. Just like Windows, in fact. I use windows myself, and installing PEAR works just fine for just about everyone, barring a couple of minor bugs if Windows and PHP are installed on different drives.
How could you ever think about comparing yourself with CPAN?
CPAN is a collection of modules for Perl PEAR is a collection of modules for PHP I don't see the problem here.
This ignorance to exclude all windows-users until you found a way to get your installer to work can only be a joke. But not enough.
Only idiots are excluded. You aren't an idiot are you?
Your website, where the packets are listed is not only terrible to navigate, Click "Packages", click the category of package you want, then browse the package names. I don't see how you can make it any better..? If you can, then please tell us because that's how things get done around here. Shouting at your fellow programmers, most of which have put in a lot of effort making PEAR what it is, when you have done nothing but swear at them, isn't going to get anything done.
it's also deadly slow, Really? Seems fine to me. go-pear installed the base package in about 30 seconds on my Windows box. That's downloading from the same website. Perhaps you can offer a mirror site?
so that for me there is no practical way to get an actual PEAR-release.
Method 1: 1. http://go-pear.org/ 2. File->Save As... 3. PHP gopear.php Method 2: 1. php -q -n -r "include 'http://go-pear.org';" 2. Get a clue. If these are too hard for you, there IS a windows "base package" that has been mentioned several times in the archives of this mailing list. If you really cared, you'd go look for it. Don't forget to swear at me for helping you out, I wouldn't want to feel left out of your fine treatment of your fellow members of the human race.
Where is the problem to offer a PEAR-packet to download? 1. Time
2. Effort If you want to do one, and have the time, then go ahead by all means. I don't see what the point is though. A base installation of PEAR will be included in PHP 4.3.1 and that's enough for people to be able to download and install whatever packages they want.
Huhu, don't break your head on someneelse's brain,
Yeah.. uh, sound advice. I think.
I need PEAR,
That's right. You NEED it. Would it hurt you too much to ask nicely?
Im only using windows. Im not even worth, that you read this message. Just keep sitting in front off your favorit shell and wait for the Linux world-domination. Good luck
At least Linux users don't throw a tantrum when they don't get their way.. they find a way that works or make their own. You're a homeless person who's walked into a soup kitchen and complained about the flavour of the free soup. The way I see it you can either put up and shut up, or bring your own ingredients and help with the cooking. -- Matt
