I just suggest this list being a list on which people can
share their knowledge and bring their skills to a higher level,
or ask specific questions which you can't (easily) find
elsewhere. Let subscribers at least take the tiny effort of
checking their manual, searching the archives (if people don't
find the archives easy enough to search, than this is a point
for the site maintainers to work on) or checking the online faq.
See http://www.php.net/support.php
and http://www.php.net/manual/
Ofcourse I don't mind reading questions which have been answered
before every now and then, or reading basic questions every now
and then (php starters should ofcourse get the chance to be helped),
but at the moment these questions, manual specific questions and
questions for which other lists exist dominate the entire list and
searching for a question cq answer of interest is like searching for
a needle in a haystack. Therefore I have not been reading the
list very much for quite some time except for the few questions
at the top of my inbox and I have been at the point of unsubscribing
for some time now (my collegue just did by the way).
I'd therefore rather see -as i have noted before- that people at least
try to think over there questions before posting and only post as there
is no other (easy) way of finding out. That way you get the questions
which do matter. Basic questions do matter as well, but you can find them
elsewhere.

should be done ?
IMO, we could have an automated post every once in a while with an FAQ
stating pointers to relevant resources.
The welcome message should probably provide such pointers too.
