You know, for being a real developer, I sure see a lot of your "easy" posts not
ever being brought to completion. I don't know how long YOU have been a power
developer, I don't ever recall any of the BIG boys solving those problems PHP
has on solaris! Why don't you just go back in the list archive and check (if you
care). I don't recall anyone actually finding solutions to those regexp's
failing even though the code was right (the suggestions were workarounds, not
solutions), and I don't recall any Manual page that lists the PHP regexp (just
using an example here) in it's entirety. I recall a while ago the post directed
people to src/regexp/regexp.7 (or something like that) in the php tar package.
Now obviously that's the first place any person who's just starting will look?
I think maybe you should step down from that high ladder and actually help
others instead of just writing RTFM. I am not the one to criticize, I don't post
a whole lot of help myself, but neither should you.
By the way, when was the last time the manual was updated for version 4.0 ??? It
looks awefully similar to the 3.0 manual. Is include_once() in there ??? Hmm, I
wonder how anyone would even know that that function existed? Another one of
your "easy" questions, eh? All questions are easy, once you know the answer to
them.
A good practice is to point out that the answer is in the manual but still give
it. Or (if the question was asked before and had reply) just point to the
previous message with a link or a pointer to the mailing list archive. I don't
want to be mean to you, just pointing out that not everything is as you see it.
I think it would be a big help if the List maintainers put a link to the FAQ
into the footers of all the messages posted, and put the mailing list address
into the Reply-To field of the messages being posted (nothing like getting those
messages twice: once to you and once to the list).
I would also ask that the documentation be updated, but since this is a freeware
project, I don't want to complain too much and am grateful for whatever is
there.
