I agree with Ralph on this one.
I have read posts from newbies to which the replies have been very negative.
All this is going to do is put these people off using PHP. If they can't
find an answer to their problem or think the people on this list aren't here
to help them, they're just going to go off and use something else where they
can find their answers.
It takes as much time to post a message pointing them to the right place in
the manual or wherever as it does to slag them for being a newbie.
The manual is good but doesn't cover all issues and the mailing list can be
tedious at times, that is why people rely on the users of this list to point
them in the right direction.
Maybe more emphasis on available resources (books, sites etc...) should be
put at the forefront of the PHP site.

What is the big deal. Some people may be new to programming and they might
be trying to dive into it using PHP. Whether it be the simplest question
like "What is PHP?" we are here to help.
As far as the manual goes, I think that unless you know what it is that you
are looking for, it serves no purpose to a newbie.
