OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) is a format for writing several documents
(Excel, Word, etc...) in the same container (file). The reason for doing
this, is to be able to embed documents inside one another, or link between
them.
OLE is in fact OLE2, the previous one (which Spreadsheet_Excel_Writer used
until now) having been replaced around 1992/93. There is not much more that I
know about (If anyone else could enlighten us, please do), since most of my
knowledge of the format comes from Perl's OLE::Storage and OLE::Storage_Lite
modules.
