Also, why can't I personally pay someone who is a PEAR developer to code a feature I want? I've offered discounts to clients who allow me to submit code back to PEAR so I can see how the reverse would be true as well.
Now, if the company wants to make a charitable donation to a foundation with the stipulation that the money be used to create feature X, then yes, we need to talk about how to handle that. Otherwise, I see no problem with a company either hiring a PEAR developer to implement a feature nor do I see a problem with a company submitting code back to the community.
