Agreed, the thread is getting thin...
Just having PEAR's name out there is a good thing, and packages being worked on is great.
Maybe PEAR should have a PR group, and why not become a non-for-profit organization after all. Yes, I know we're all volunteers and swamped over our heads...
PEAR guys going to conferences, usually have some flyers and so forth, while this is a great place to spread the word about our contribution to the open source community, maybe more interesting would be to reach out to companies to get them involve, and why not endorse PEAR.
If PayPal asked Zend, it's because they had a need for a solid portable SOAP implementation written in PHP. Same for me, I use PEAR packages because 1. I have a need for them and 2nd because I know about it. My payback is contributing to packages. I believe it goes the same for most of the active members here. Note that PayPal may not have contacted PEAR simply because they didn't know about it in the first place.
For those bringing up the increased liability topic, I can just point out that no software company ships products without the "No warranty & use at your own risk" warning on it. Besides, with strict guidelines, PEAR is pretty much the best around for PHP code library.
I don't see a "in the news" or "press coverage" link on PEAR's web site. So maybe a PR section would be a good addition.
