The point being: search and replace is not a development method
at all and makes developing components quite useless. Development
can only become efficient and less prone to errors, if you have
a pool of tested components which you can reuse in new project
WITHOUT changing anything in these components themselves.
Even better: If you have means to encapsulate these components
in a way that makes a product from a tool (i.e. compile them, or
just sign them), you can create a business from such components
for yourself, and a marketplace for components in general.
All this can only happen, if you develop your programming system
(language and supporting infrastructure) with the idea of components,
reuseable code and encapsulation in the back of your mind. Currently
not the case with the PHP object system. Which is all my rant is
about.
