That's nonsense. As I said, 2x slower speed means you have to spend 2x as much dollars to offer the same speed. In 12 months, this would still be true. The number of users increases as well, don't forget that.
marketing and management and development understanding tells:
Better suffering 2x decrease (and *possibly* investing a small amount of money) than suffering a 2x+++ *increase* on development time (and *definitely* investing a great amount of money and loosing valuable time(=loosing further great amounts of money)) rewriting stuff from scratch or assimilating hairy code.
