Smarty does offer a huge array of features but if you read the quickstart you can begin using it in about a minute, and the syntax is really simple for simple things. Of course if you wan to use smarty functions you'll have to learn them but you don't have to grok the entire thing to use it. I would love if smarty were PEARIfied, but to be honest we won't need to use smarty at runtime anyway (it compiles!)... But certainly smarty can play the role of 'simple, quick, easy' and 'beefy complex production engine' :) _alex
