Uh, sorry, no. There is released code that's using PEAR already. There was when
someone broke DB's backwards compatibility for a month with the whole quote()
vs. quoteString() mess, and that was a problem, too.
Making decisions by facts on the ground isn't always the best way to do things,
but it seems to be how things get done in the open source world a lot. And
there is code on the ground - DB, Log, Mail, Image, Date, HTTP, HTML, XML,
PEAR - all the packages that are there and work and shouldn't be broken. We've
got code. Let's build on it, not tear it down _for no good reason_ - sorry,
tabs vs. spaces doesn't qualify - again. And again. And again.
As for "a lot of people don't like the current way" - if you're talking about
tabs vs. spaces, it's always going to be near 50-50, and so there are _always_
going to be "a lot" of people who don't like whichever decision is made. And
again, for the core stuff, I think it ought to be consistent. So some of us
will just have to live with a small semantic thing that bugs us. Learn to set
your editor to take care of it for you.
