I have nothing against IT (although I think Xtpl and it use the same tags), the only thing I'm against is that it will be there with bugs and without doc. If anybody wants to do a little maintain of it, my proposal will still to replace it.
I just saw that PHPDoc heavily uses IT. So removing it might cause some serious problems. I would be really happy to see someone fixing the bugs (perhaps Ulf himself, who knows the system best?).
I vote for allowing more than one templating system in PEAR.
+2 (if you let me raise the two hands ;)
You could raise your second hand for Stig, who currently has some problems with raising both his hands :-).
Since the php-template project fizzled out, I've kinda lost my belief in php ever having just one template system. It seems there are more template systems than database abstraction layers out there :) But I must say I dig the ideas behind Smarty. Personally, I would never use a non-compiling template system for anything with serious traffic. Smarty is the only system I've seen so far (not that I've seen so many) where for example the Zend Cache buys you anything. That's a huge plus in my book at least. It just gives you more options to compile. - Stig
