Replying to myself but just to make another point I missed out =)
I think that one of the advantages of PHP is you can come from
C/Perl/Whatever and have functions in common, dont break this. I was very
much in favour of renaming all functions systematically until I sat down an
made myself a list then thought how ugly and unusable it made parts of the
lang. Leave 90% of functions in ext/standard alone. Alter the other ones.
