Being case-sensitive in function names was something that Andi and I wanted to do in the days of the initial PHP 3.0 parser (and the initial parser was indeed case sensitive, and actually didn't allow functions and variables with the same name, like C :). We decided to give this up because PHP/FI 2.0 was already around with 15,000 domains. We should have had more vision :I
At any rate, enabling case sensitivity is possible and very easy to do. We can easily do it selectively, so that it can be configured in the INI file or even in runtime. We need to think about it some more, though, and decide whether this is a good idea.

Caring about the case of the letters increases namespace by an amount so big that it's got to be of some use. I get the impression from code snippets on the list, and from various apps I've downloaded that just about everyone uses lower case throughout at the moment. This might mean that a change to uppercase or to initial caps, or similar might mean that a new clean scheme can be introduced with minimum inconvenience.-- Zeev Suraski <zeev@zend.com> CTO & co-founder, Zend Technologies Ltd. http://www.zend.com/Case sensitivity would certainly increase the available namespace.. but, but - are you *barking* mad? :) This is a very fundamental change - even thinking about trying to convince the core (or myself) that this isagood idea makes my teeny tiny brain hurt.however.. I suppose that this is one possible creative solution. :)Here is another option. What about implementing classes in the source that handle the naming and namespace issues?
