Even if PEAR requirements cut down on the number of examples, ones that are
in there will be portable and probably pretty stable. PEAR will not replace
all the sites that exist to get code samples but it will and should be a
place for the major packages to be placed like (I know it's native now) a
CyberCash module. It should a basically a FAQ for code examples, you may be
able to get better examples elsewhere, but the ones in PEAR will be the most
frequently used.

Maybe they should have been, but aren't these people on the list anyway?
PEAR didn't just pop up over night, there has been talk about it for a while.
