Where is that said? Is this just from the current conversation? Because I just
didn't see it as that. I may contribute something to an archive but I can still
retain rights to it, use a license like the Netscape Public License or Sun's
Community License.
OTOH, I don't understand why you would contribute a piece of code to a site and
care what people do with it? Why did you contribute it in the first place? You
can always retain certain rights to that software. For instance not allowing
others to package it and call it their own.
Bottom line: 95% of the code produced in the world is not created for resale,
PEAR and CPAN and OpenSource allows this code to be used and built on to create a
better end product for everyone.
The more sites and the more code that is available to be built on the better for
everyone.
