Hello Paul, On 02-Mar-00 22:20:52, you wrote: >At 7:40 PM -0200 2000-03-02, Manuel Lemos wrote: >> >about. Right, but if you are willing to, you have to make your code Open Source and put it under their CVS repository. They claim it will be like CPAN, but this way it doesn't. They are misleading people here and I feel I just can't sit watching without at least raising pertinent questions. >If they were, your argument might have some merit. I am not imposing any guidelines because I have no control over PEAR development. I just want to make clear that some requirements that don't interest me are being pushed, I am not willing to contribute and I suspect that others won't want to contribute either that way. >What I don't get about this flurry of messages in which you're expressing >your objections, is that you already have your own repository, and one >that appears to be fairly successful. I assume that you intend to continue >this repository, so why is it an issue whether or not PEAR exists? First because it is duplicating efforts unnecessarily. I don't command anybody, but I feel that could just use the time and the effort to do other things that PHP community could benefit and sanction not only my repository but also others by helping promiting them. As I mentioned in my previous message, I already took the initiative to bring together PHP valuable content site providers to start taking initiatives that would be mutually beneficial and would help the PHP community to grow, like exchanging each other site banners. Nobody from the core developers showm despite they were explicitly called in a public message. It's a kind of hopeless and frustrating initiative probably because of the NIH syndrom (read my previous message). :-( >>>real requirement to have all PEAR modules live in the PHP code base. I believe I have that right over my work, yes. >So, basically, you're not really that interested in collaborative development >unless you get to call the shots? But of course. As I explained before my work is based on many ready to use components that I developed. I just can't let go the development of my code out of my control. That doesn't mean I am not interested in contributions, fixes, suggestions, etc. That doesn't mean I am not interested in contributing with my code to PEAR, but in the terms it is done in CPAN, not with this CVS silly idea and requiring contributions to be made Open Source first, I don't know any code repository that requires that. Anyway, PEAR has been adverstised as a CPAN for PHP. CPAN is neither about collaborative development, but centralized distribution of conformant code.
