I don't think that _now_ PHP is as powerful as Cold Fusion, However, we
don't need it yet to. Huge applications can be written by PHP when a
programmer that writes it knows what he's doing and loves the whole idea of
open-source. Yes, Open-Source, is when ALL OF US are to develop PHP, and it
means that there's much more hands/brains working on the Parser and more
people support it like me supporting you right here right now.
This is what PHP is good for, not being better then CF, C++, Python, Java
but being more available to everyone and being the best and the simplest
solution for interactive Web. Especially when you mix it with other
Open-Sources like Apache, Linux, MySQL, PostgreSQL etc... Nothing is so
compatible in $$$ world.
Cheers, Maxim Maletsky!

If PHP isn't already, I feel it will soon be a superior tool for server side
coding than many other languages including CFM. However, CFM has a wide
support base via a commerical organization. PHP is getting this too, but
one real problem with PHP is the lack of PHP knowledgable programmers. I
can feel the PHP ranks growing and once the "boss-man" sees a reasonable
size supply of people to work on his storehouse of internal PHP code, he may
adopt it outright. Until then who can blame folks for "buying in" to
commercial solutions that have a decent supply of talent to back it up.

It is the old chicken-and-egg problem. Programmers aren't getting trained
in PHP because there are no jobs; and there are no jobs.....
I searched dice.com's New York site for PHP and I found 48 refererences. I
searched for Cold Fusion and I found 196 references. Go figure.
