We are all forgetting, guys that the reason that we use PHP is for very practical reasons based on good philosophy: we realize that the way to win in the world ultimately is to be open, to change criticism and the other 'adversities' that ultimately make a business/organization succeed. PHP represents and effort that succeeds because its creators realize that a language - like a human one - never develops in a vacuum. I am not a programmer, but I use PHP to make my pages work, because it is available, cost us nothing but time/salary on my part, and I am familiar with a language that all of these 'modern' scripting languages seem to be based on, that is, HyperTalk (is that true?) from Apple's Hypercard of the early 80's... if anyone is in the same boat I would appreciate hearing from them because our own websites, like 101things.com are very primitive programmatically but we are trying hard to make this work with open source... We have an NT/Coldfusion server. We also have linux/apache/php server at my campus. And I don't know what the heck is going on with that machine, but we need to restart the CFM so many times that we set up a cron to restart it every 20 minutes. It's been more than a year since we migrated to php. At some point, I just didn't care anymore about that NT server. What I'm doing now is to convert all the CFM application left to php, so I don't have to deal with CFM anymore. See.. I'm a converted programmers (from CFM to PHP) :). Reuben D.
