Sweet Words! -----Original Message----- From: jeremy brand [mailto:jeremy@smackdown.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2000 11:31 AM To: Joe Stump; Maxim Maletsky Cc: php-general@lists.php.net Subject: Re: [PHP] php vs cold fusion I agree. We have the same set-up here. Not everyone has learned php as their first language. All of us at one point or another have been C coders -- with the love for the web. Turns out, PHP is the greatest thing ever for doing programming on the web, quickly. Hands down. In my experience, with old ssi, perl, C and server sider java, PHP is the winner in these categories: 1) bringing web aplications to life. 2) doing it quicker than with the other tools. 3) Because our servers are unix, we don't get the BSOD. 4) It is real, right now -- not vapor ware. 5) It is open source -- there is no cost to entry. 6) It does the job. We serve over 1,000,000 dynamic page view a day. 7) It is fully documented. (Need I mention, the documentation is open also?) 8) It is also my new favorite scripting language. I write all my (complicated) shell scripts in PHP now. 9) It talks to nearly every DB under the sun, natively. 10) 'nough for now... Of course these are the oppinions of Jeremy Brand and as such, if you don't agree, I don't care... ;) Take care, -jeremy brand --- Joe Stump <joe@earth.care2.com> > wrote: >I agree with Rasthmus here - I'm one of those college kids with "PHP knowledge", >although writing scripts for a media metrix top 500 site probably doesn't >qualify as "light knowledge" ;O) > >We have a C programmer, a DB guru, and me in the middle - the PHP guru (I like >to think of myself that way ;o) and we all bring something to the table when it >comes to programming.
