PEAR strives to be for quality. This requires some selectivity. Downloads is not a good measure of stability or usefulness, I've never found a useful class at the other repositories (except sourceforge - which provides obvious measures like open bug reports/feature requests) I do not think PEAR is for everyone, I think it is for everyone who wishes to depend on code working properly and is willing to sacrifice some trivial ease in order to achieve the greater ease :). However, in practice, my beliefs don't match the current state of affairs for many packages, and this is changing slowly. Greg
